BDY_PRTS TAKE IT TO THE TOP

Full disclosure, if you have coulrophobia and don’t fancy facing your demons any time soon, then you had best skip the video for BDY_PRTS‘Take It To The Top’ and listen to the audio instead. One thing’s for certain, you shouldn’t miss out on this avant-garde, electronic pop smasher. Taking cues from Kate Bush and the wisdom of mothers, the Glasgow-based duo of Jill O’Sullivan (originally from Chicago) and Jenny Reeve embody an exaggerated version of clownish femininity to demonstrate the importance of “not letting pride and petty differences cloud our judgement or detract from the true meaning of standing by those we love and respect.” The video itself was inspired by the 1970 Bauhaus film, Das Triadische Ballet, rendered here in their own hyper-colourful style. The song itself is yet trickier to describe, with it’s hard-hitting percussion (courtesy of drummer Jonny Scott), playful pings, poppy harmonies and an irregular breakdowns as the bassline steps to the fore and the symbolic lyrics are given room to breathe. - HT
